Dances of Universal Peace with Shamsia

The Dances of Universal Peace are part of a timeless tradition of sacred dance. Join us in the beautiful Dyfi Valley to celebrate the diversity of the Earth’s spiritual traditions and experience a compassionate connection to others and to nature.
What are the Dances of Universal Peace?
Through moving, chanting and singing together we open to peace and unity — a sense of joyful oneness.
The Dances of Universal Peace are a powerful way to connect with others, to experience the true heart of many spiritual traditions and draw on them for inspiration. In many parts of the world, there are circles sharing this unique form of meditative yet celebratory body prayer.

From the beginning of time, sacred movement, song and story have brought people together at times of seasonal ceremony and celebration, as part of everyday life and during life passages, in daily renewal and meditation. The Dances of Universal Peace are part of this timeless tradition of sacred dance. The Dances are simple, direct, accessible and profound, being inspired by the wisdom and sacred phrases of the spiritual traditions of humankind.

They are most often danced in a circle using natural and devotional movements. Essentially they are a form of celebration and meditation in song and movement, the sacred phrase being an important element of each Dance. The Dances can be joyful, contemplative and liberating, in fact the mood of the dances is infinitely variable. Through remembrance of our divine unity we can experience peace, harmony and healing — opening the pathways to inner peace and sensations of being fully alive.

Zikr Dances on ZOOM

Zikr (Ziker/Dhikr) Dances are Dances of "Remembrance". Using sacred phrases in Arabic, these Dances of Universal Peace take us along one of the spiritual paths taught by Samuel L Lewis who originally created the Dances. An American born Sufi who studied many of the world’s spiritual traditions, Samuel L Lewis taught the "Path of the Heart".

In person Dances

The local circle at Derwenlas in Wales has been Dancing Dances of Universal Peace from around 1990 and continues to welcome new Dancers as well as those with more experience and visitors who are in this beautiful part of the world.
Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan, Grandfather of the Dances said: "See what an atmosphere the harmony of ten people can create; the power of love and the influence created by ten people is much greater than that created by one.

A weekend retreat with Miss Ruth

We, Ruth Christine & I, are really delighted to be offering another time and space to gather to explore the inspiration that "pours forth" from the Grandmother of the Dances of Universal Peace, Miss Ruth (as her students called her).  She taught Samuel Lewis "about how to pick dances from the akashic sphere", perhaps one could say, the heart of God, and he began to call Ruth St Denis his “fairy godmother.”
